Hey ya'll! So, how was everyone's holiday? Do anything fun and exciting?

Well, I worked! LOL I put in a half day at the hospital on Christmas day, then hung out with my friends on X-Mas eve, and that night. Relaxing and fun in a quiet way. :)

And then it was New Year's Eve and I remebered that I wanted to do the Polar Bear Plunge into Lake Washington again this year! I did it for the first time last year and it was a blast, AND an amazing way to start off the year! ACK, I had almost forgot! So I quickly looked up on my 'puter to see what time it was running, and saw that it had been canceled this year due to budget cuts!

   AAAAUGGH!

   Now, budget cuts were not going to prevent the diehards from jumping in anyway, but I was also helping paint my friend Kailyn's gym on New Year's Day, so I said decide to jump into Puget Sound instead! I asked Kailyn's partner, Drew, to go in with me, and he agreed only if I would help paint on New Year's Day. Uummm...sure! He he he >:}

About 10 minutes later, he realized that I had ALREADY said I would help paint, but he was trapped as he had already promised! YES!

So he grumbled a bit, and then even more the next morning. He kept saying that he was just going in up to his waist and I kept saying that was SO not the way to do it, as he would be even more cold then if he just ran in and submerged himself. So Kailyn parked at the curb, we got out and walked down the beach to the ocean. There were people on the beach in their parkas, and here we were, stripping down to swimsuits and a t-shirt. I asked him if he was ready, and he said he needed a minute. So I said ok, and ran full force into the water and threw myself backwards into the waves. I came up laughing, just in time to see Drew run and then shallowly dive in! He popped back out, paused and said "Oh. That's not bad at all!" and then went back under the water! LOL

We made our way back to the car, where Kailyn leaned out and took our picture, all wet and smiling. :] It was the best part of my day, and his too. He has agreed to go in every year on New Year's Day with me, so that's great!

Now, as for the audtion stuff. I STILL do not know the exact day, whether it's 2/28 or 3/1. What I DO know is that the only thing they are getting from me this year is "I'm back to give it another go!" No story of any kind will pass my lips. They got that last year, so I won't go there again. I fully intend to dress better, clothes and hair. And believe it or not, I was wearing makeup, but not heavily enough, apparently. So I am working on all of these factors, slowly but surely. Still waffling on my song choice, but I'll make a decision soon.

And what do you all think of Howie Mandell as the new judge? Seems like an odd choice to me. What do you think?

Gotta go back to work! Hugs to all! Kari  :}~

Hi Kari! I am soooo excited for your AGT audition! My choice for your song is "My Immortal" I love it....it is so haunting :) I will miss David as a Judge but Howie will be interesting.

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

What's the Holfs new show called "Celebrity Rehab", maybe they should have replace him with KITT. :)

Hire a Canadian to judge an American talent show ? He can't sing or dance like most of the acts and he is a judge. All Howie will be doing on the panel is sitting there making jokes and that is not what the program is about. The artists on there, are the serious ones that is, are there to give it all, they have not to be ridiculed or made a joke of.

AGT has one purpose - to make money for thier producers and they do that by attracting huge audiences. You found out they don't care about talent. Which judges bring the biggest audience is thier motivation.

Use your appearance last year as a learning experience and correct the mistakes you made. Your right you gave them a way too much information, go back this year and present your self as a professional (WHICH YOU ARE) and you will
advance to the finals. We will be backing you !

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Hi Kari,

Glad you had a fab New Year and great Xmas. I think Howie will be a good judge, as this is America's Got talent and is for all entertainment venues, I think a non-singer is a good choice. And he is a very intelligent person, plus just because he's a comic doesn't mean he doesn't have eyes and ears and good taste.

I'm looking forward to and keeping my fingers crossed for your audition this year. I still have the last one dvr-ed. :D Although I understand your concerns for appearance, I thought you look fine last year. You don't have to be a fashion plate to be a beautiful person. And you are that. Good luck and what ever you sing I know it will be fantabulious! ;)

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Hi Kari,
Glad you had a good Holiday & New Year. Not sure about Howie as a judge, will miss the "Hoff". I just finished watching your "rain on my parade" on youtube. Somehow, if you get the chance you have just gotta do that song! The "growl" is awesome & that last note!!!! Have you read the comments?? ! You sound like a cross between Liza & Barbra!! Love it.
I know you can't tell us how it went, but please let us know when it'll be on. Gooooood Luck!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Oh, want to add one thing... I know you don't want to give too much info, BUT, a plug for your Florida group might be A.O.K. Gives them a bit of publicity (always good, they may ask you back!) & let's AGT know you're not just standing around doing nothing while waiting to audition for AGT again! What do you think??

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Glad you had a great holiday, Kari-you're braver than I am jumping in ice cold water. Now about Howie: well-that's a major curveball for me-didn't know the Hoff wasn't coming back-go figure. I gotta tell ya, I'm not much of a Hoff fan, I think the ego got in the way a bit, but don't get me wrong, he was a decent judge. Howie might be a breath of fresh air if you ask me. Hope you lock down the dates for the audition so you don't miss out. You're right-they already know your story from last time, so just do your thing and knock their socks off!

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Sure glad to hear that your holidays were terrific. Part of my training in the Marine Corps was jumping into an ice cold pool with full pack and all gear. Than swim the length of the pool. WOW. But being from Chicago at the time and raised their it wasn't to bad. Some guys had to be pulled out..But I can see how you fun tho. I just listened AGAIN to your "Don't Rain On My Parade" and that has to be the song of all songs. Oh how I want to hear you do that with a full band behind you. I hope Liza and Barbra will be listening. And I definetly agree with you "No Stories". All tho I think I really know what you would like to say............As for Howie I really think he is going to be as fair as can be. I'm sure he doesn't want any bad publicity. So Kari I am behind you all the way....Go Get EMMMMMMMM Dennis

Kari, I am so happy for you! I am so glad that your going to give audition another stab. You will be wonderful! Your song choice will be brilliant, just like you!

Howie Mandell is the guy to replace David?? I had no clue until I read this blog that Howie was the guy to take David's seat. Hmm???

Kari? Go get em!!! You CAN do it!!!

Good luck, I don't know about replacing the Hoff but oh well. Good to see you giving it another go. Good luck.

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Thanks Lance for the FIT site pictures .... Great pics Kari !! Too bad there's no video to go along with it. Now That's an outfit for AGT !

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Yes, I liked the outfit too. My best guy friend, Kailyn, made me buy the top that size, even though it felt a wee snug. But dear gods! My hair in the picture with Dr. Stelnicki looks AWFUL!!! My only defense is that it was REALLY windy outside that night. But, I was so disgusted with that picture that I didn't look at the rest, so I will take ya'lls word on the rest of the pics! ;)~

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Hey Kari,
Go splurge & get yourselfl that nice haircut & styling you've been wanting ! Try to find someone good, who can pick something that'll really be easy to care for & highlight your face a bit.... you'll love it & be glad you did. You deserve to feel really good about how you look !! --Besides it'll make it easier on stage if you don't have to give it a second thought !!!!!!!!!! Good luck

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Keep in mind what people thought when they changed Susan Boyles looks. Got a lot of NEGATIVE feedback.

I would be "careful" to not change your look too much as to where people will be saying, "Gee, what has she done to herself?"

Maybe a song that Whitney Houston does that she "belts out"? I would do a song that is "strong" and you can "belt out".

I would save Don't rain on my parade for the semi finals or finals if you get that far.

I think the important thing is that you sing "strong" songs all the way thru. So people will keep saying, "Man, she can really belt/punch out a song".

Don't do what they say to do, do what you want to do and make SURE that you will have control over what you sing all the way thru if they let you advance. If not, then I would pass on going forward because they will do what they want to make someone "fail" if they don't want them to go further.

Just look at who won this year? The judges did everything they could to keep him moving thru. The reality is like many American Idol winners, he won't get too far.

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Hey, comment to Trvman - I suggested an easy to care for hairstyle she'd feel comfortable with, not a whole body makeover ! Worrying about your hair is something Kari so does not need when she's worrying about putting a song across ...Plus they didn't really change Susan Boyle - just toned down the grey & crazy hair & plucked her eyebrows - something a lot of women do as a matter of course; the comments were over what people THOUGHT they were going to do! Song choice is so hard, you want to let them know you can really sing, but too much belting & they say you are "yelling", too soft & they'll say you need more power..... what kind of song can you do in the 30 or 60 seconds or so that allows some soft, some belting & some pitch changes that show your full range????? Yikes ! If you get past that first time (YES) then maybe you can alternate or at least have more time to play with a song. Got any ideas yet, Kari?

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

I agree with Kitty on this. First, there's nothing wrong with a little "freshening up" with your appearance. Nothing too drastic of course. Also belting out every song might be a strain on your voice. Showing different note changes in your songs can show that your voice can be very flexible in any type you sing and range. Looking forward to seeing you on AGT!

Re: Hidey ho, everyone? How was everyone's holiday?

Ok, if she checks back to her blog. How about this for a audition song?
